Think About Your Thoughts
As we dive head first into this Summer Challenge in hopes of growing you mentally, spiritually, and challenge you physically. I only saw it fitting that we start off with a verse that allows us to realign our thoughts and start out with our heads straight.
" You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds"
- Ephesians 4:22-23
You see, I picked this verse to kick off our Challenge because I know how easy it is to get in the mindset that we have to train out bodies in order to become healthier, do more, even feel better. Now while this is one of the goals that I have..its so much more than that.
You see we train out bodies to be fit. We train ourselves to overcome bad habits and start new healthy ones. We train our bodies to wake up at the butt crack of dawn and do that hour of cardio we were told to do in order to love ourselves. We train our bodies to be able to lift heavy things and we train our taste buds to be okay with eating plan chicken and broccoli every meal because thats the only way. However in this challenge I hope you realize that thats not the only way.
We can train our bodies, but I often think we forget that we can train our minds as well.
A bible study I did a while ago touched on this subject. "Thinking about your thoughts". Such a confusing and contradictory statement right? But think about that...we have control over what we think...you get to choose.
Remember how the devil comes to steal, kill, lie and destroy? Well one of his favorite ways to penetrate our lives is in our minds. You wouldn't think it....but we are the most vulnerable in our minds because our thoughts flow freely. Think about this, how often do you look in the mirror, or lay in bed thinking negative things about yourself?
My guess is that there is no one looking at you in the face in those moments and telling you to think those things. Thats how the devil works. He gets in your head and makes you believe things about yourself that aren't true, and never will be true.
In the depths of my eating disorder I would go every single day with a mind full of negative thoughts. Every time I would eat I would think about how disgusting I was. I let my thoughts plaque my whole life. Not even my view of myself, but because I thought of myself so negatively, I was SURE everyone else around me felt the same way about me. I convinced myself that no one loved me. No one appreciated me. No man would ever want me. I soon learned though, there is a Man who loves me so much he hung on a cross so that I could have victory over the enemy.
All those days and hours I spent listening to the lies that were capturing my mind, I found myself growing father and farther away form my faith. I chose to chase the fear, lies, and hate...simply because it felt easier. It felt easier to hate myself. To live a life consumed by this eating disorder that ripped my happiness away. It was easier to chase that than it was to believe that there is a man who loves me despite everything I have ever done. Despite what I had done to myself. This man loved me though the darkness. He never stopped. And he never will.
This week I want you to commit to retraining your thoughts. I don't know exactly what you are going through. I don't know if you signed up for the challenge because you are in desperate need of self love. But this is the first step in to being Set Free. This week I want you to learn to discern between the voice of God and the lies of the enemy. I can tell you right now that any time a thought starts to fill your mind that doesn't reflect positivity, peace, or grace...its not of God. Consciously choose to believe what God says about you. Learn Gods thoughts, and choose to make them yours.
You deserve to live a life of Freedom. He doesn't promise a life without the struggle. He doesn't promise a life without the enemy constantly whispering in your ear...but he does promise a Peace that will be revealed to you as you choose His voice over the enemy.
"Your God is with you. Whom shall you fear?"
Here are some thoughts to transform your mind when you feel the enemy getting to close:
1. I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
2. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21)
3. Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4)
4. I can do all things who Christ who strengthens me (Philippines 4:13)
5. I am Gods workmanship, created in Christ for good works (Ephesians 2:10)
6. I am Gods Child (Galatians 3: 26)

2. How is God speaking to you through this verse? What stands out to you the most?
3. Was there a lesson in this passage? How does it pertain to your life right now?
4. How do you feel God is using this passage to you move and grow you?
