Armor of God

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."

-Matthew 4:1-11

In my previous post about Victory at Calvary and relying not on your own strength but on Gods, the question remains of how you live out your life with that strength. There are many answers, but one of those answers lies within this scripture The Armor of God is not just there for you in times of struggle or suffering...but you are capable of putting on this armor and wearing it every day to protect your heart with His Truths and Promises.

The Belt of Truth:

This stands for integrity. This belt allows you to carry your weapons and stand firm in your faith. Just as a belt holds things in place, so does this belt of integrity hold together all the rest of the your life.

The Breastplate of Righteousness:

This stands for purity. As the breastplate covers the chest, it also is a symbol of righteousness. The enemy loves to scheme ways that he can attack you, and if your heart. is not guarded with purity, integrity, and righteousness than you are vulnarable. As soon as you allow a crack in your armor, he has access to your heart..and then to your thoughts.

Shoes of Peace:

This stands for peace and tranquility, a firm foundation. Often times, a soldier would have spikes on the bottom of their shoes that allowed them to be stable and have firm footing as they fought in battle. It is SO important in any battle to have a firm foundation so that you can properly fight back. Im not talking about fighting back to your loved ones or even with yourself, I'm talking about having a firm footing that allows you to not be moved when the enemy tries to shove you down. When you lose your footing or step off the foundation, you are easily moved and therefore easily convinced. Keep your peace by standing on a foundation that does not crack not falter.

The Shield of Faith:

When you give your life to Christ you are born again. On that day of revival, you are born with an target on your back. Satans goal is to get as many people to turn away from God as possible and when he sees you giving your life to him, he aims his arrow right at you. One of Satans favorite arrow is one of doubt. He wants you to question yourself. Or your strength. Or your abilities. Doubt is a sure fire way to get to your mind. Once your mind is compromised, he can say whatever he wants to you to get you turn the other direction and lay down your armor. The Shiel d of faith is your serenity.

The Helmet of Salvation:

When you are a new Christian, the biggest transformation happens in your mind. You no longer believe the lies of the world but the truths in the Word. Satan LOVES to get in your head. And as he tries to attack you there, if you have the helmet of salvation on that declares you know where you stand in alliance with God, he cannot defeat you.

The Sword of The Spirit: So when satins flaming arrows are barreling toward you, you have two options. You can run and hide, or you can stand firm with your belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and fight back with the sword of the Spirit. This is where you cast away any effort to fight the battle with your own strength, but rather call on Jesus to get you through the fight. Just as Satans arrows have sting, so does the sting of the Truth that you declare over the enemy. An example of this is when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness. When the devil tried temptation after temptation against Jesus, he used the sword of the Spirit. He threw the Word of God at Satan. This is how it played out...

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written,

“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,’

and

“‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”

Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”

Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.

Do you see the power in what Jesus declared back to Satan? He not only shut him up...but he shut him up by mic dropping The Word right back at him. He stuck back at the enemy with Gods Truth and was victorious.

Whenever you feel Satins flaming arrows flying at you, put on the WHOLE Armor of God and respond this way:

"Get behind me Satan..For it is written______(fill in the blank with a truth relative to your situation)"

Here are some truths that can encourage you in these times:

-There is no disease he cannot heal

-There is no heart God cannot mend

-There is no relationship God cannot restore

-There is no person God cannot save

-There is no pain God cannot redeem

-There is no sin God cannot forgive

-There is no bondage God cannot break

-There is no need God cannot meet

-There is no enemy God cannot defeat

-There is no mountain God cannot move

Reflect on todays verse:

I am strong because of you. Thank you for your Armor that allows me to defeat any enemy that steps in my path. Help me to remember your truths and promises so that I can stand on your firm foundation and fight my battles. I confess that I tend to cower and let the devil consume my thoughts when things get hard, but that changes today. Today I take up this Armor and know that I am prepared for any battle. Thank yo Jesus for your strength and power in my life.

Amen
