Bought at a Price

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

Isn't it crazy to think that there is man out there that literally loves us SO much that he hung bleeding, abused, mutilated, and weak on a cross so that WE could have salvation? So that WE would have completely access to Him. So that we no longer had to fight everyday to gain righteousness..but so that with his blood we are MADE righteous.

I know I can't even fathom that.

The people who stood at the feet of Jesus and watched this all play out...what must they have been thinking?

Some of them cried and some of them threw curses at him. Some of them were confused as to why this Man who was supposed to save them is being killed. Some of them watched it with pure hate. Some of them cried out to God to save him.

How do you think they would have reacted if they knew that there was purpose in this pain? Would they have had a different outlook? Would they have fell to his feet and called out praises to Him? Would they have immediately confessed that He is Lord and thank Him for His sacrifice?

Some of them did...but what some of them just didn't understand was the PRICE at which they were about to be bought.

What does it mean that you were bought at a price?

"When God paid the price of his Son to purchase his people from sin and guilt and condemnation, it was the ransom for their bodies as well as their souls."

You are not your own...

When you are born again as a Child of God and accept Him as your Lord and savior, you are offering your body as a living sacrifice. A vessel for the Holy Spirit to live in you and thrive through you. To spread light and love.

When this verse says to "honor God with your bodies" I don't think its just talking about physically. Its talking about honoring God with your actions, your thoughts, your words. ALL OF IT.

This takes dying to yourself daily. It takes constantly understanding that to live a life that is more like Christ, we have to constantly call on the Spirit to intervene and speak through us.

So how can we continually make an effort to honor God with our bodies every single day?

1. We can make sure we are in good health: this mean taking care of the vessel by exercising, eating in a way that will serve us instead of us serving it, and maintaining proper hygiene.

2. We can make sure that our thoughts align with His. We've talked a lot about thoughts and mindset so far, but how often do you actually ask God to reign in your thoughts and make them align with HIs? Out thought life is one of the most important ways that we can serve God. If we are constantly focusing on the world or the way our body looks then we are constantly putting those things in front of Him.

3. We can make sure that we love OTHERS. For some people serving others is really difficult. The mindset is "well I'm just too busy and I barely have time for myself, how can I serve anyone else?"

The thing is you can actively serve people around you every single day without having to go out of your way. Give the rude grocery cashier a compliment instead of being rude back. Serve your husband by doing the thing that causes him the most stress so he doesn't have to. Serve your children by letting them know how beautiful they are both to you and to God. Loving others is such a blessing and the reward is even greater. When you love others you learn to love yourself even more.

4. We can make sure that we love OURSELVES. Ya'll have heard me SO many times talk about self love, but its because its so powerful. You don't have the love the way your body looks or every single imperfection, but seeing yourself not as the world sees it and instead viewing as this amazing vessel of love, hope, grace, joy, and compassion that God gifted you with to be that to others, can bring about a whole new type of self love. Its not about you, but it matters how much you love yourself not because you have to, but because God needs you to.

5. We can make sure that we are constantly making a connection with Him. This means developing a morning routine. Or it means taking time to really be STILL in his presence. If we are constantly going going going we are going to be able fully be used for his good. Our bodies are sensitive. Fragile Breakable. But when we choose to be still in the presence of the Lord and hear from him then we are actively offering our bodies as a living sacrifice to be loved and be love.

So how will you honor God with your body this week? You were bought at a price, but nothing can ever take away the fact that God sees you as priceless in His eyes. Live your life like the Jewel you are.

Reflect on todays verse:

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

1. What does being bought at a price mean to you? How can you honor God with that sacrifice this week? Think about this ultimate sacrifice, what emotions are brought up? Visualize Christ as someone in your life that you truly love and care about hanging on the cross for YOU...how does that make you think about this event differently?

2. How is God speaking to you through this verse? What stands out to you the most?

3. Was there a lesson in this passage? How does it pertain to your life right now?

4. How do you feel God is using this passage to you move and grow you?

5. What are some steps you can take this week to embrace, and live out this truth?

Father,

I will never know the price of which you paid for my freedom, but I thank you that I get the option to walk in it every single day. Holy Spirit lead me to honor God with my body. I want my whole being to represent the Woman of Christ I am. I commit this week to honoring you with my body by ________

Amen
